In 2025 I headed back to North Sumatra, where I filmed Netflix’s Secret Lives of Orangutans, to film not only Orangutans but also the beautiful Sumatran Tiger and Thomas’ Langur.
Working with director Mark Linfield of Wildstar Films meant that I had access to the stunning Sony Venice 2 camera to film the Orangutans, Sumatran Tiger and Thomas’ Langur.
By far this is my favourite camera to shoot on thanks to its clean interface, robust shell and most importantly the stunning colours it outputs.
Luckily on this one I wasn’t slogging it round a swamp for 12 hours a day for a month like I did for Netflix’s Secret Lives of Orangutans otherwise I would have opted for something lighter. But on this occasion it was the perfect camera for the job.
For these North Sumatran shoots I worked with the incredibly talented fixer Vanya Safitri of ASA Films. She genuinely is one of the best fixers I’ve ever worked with.
